Happy birthday to me! This week the water colour pens from Molotow arrived and gave me an opportunity to have a little play around. It’s great to have a go at a different type of media and I think with the right paper I could introduce water to these and get a really distinctive, stylised finish.
My first subject has been drawing birds. I think I’m jealous of their freedom, their ability to go abroad whenever they want to, and how little they pay for intercontinental travel.
I’m really enjoying how the ink reacts to being painted over again and again and how that darkens the pigment and leaves a very unpredictable outer edge. It means I need to consider every mark, especially as the paper I have chosen does not respond well to liquid masking (see slight rip in top corner of the birds wing)
