Once again we are heading face-first into a national lockdown. This year I’ve studied more graphs and followed more government briefings than I’d expect to in a lifetime and despite the population’s best efforts it looks as though I’m going to be spending my birthday behind closed doors.

For this lockdown Im going to continue trying to make art at home, but this time I’m taking direct inspirations from other artists- but mostly street artists.

2020 has been a pretty big year for street art especially in response to the political chaos the orange goblin Donald Trump has rained down on America. the Black Lives Matter protests have all produced fantastic mural work and covid is starting to do the same.

With art galleries closed under social distancing rules and regulations, the industrial walls used by street artists have become my only real physical interaction with art. A cycle/ running route of mine that takes me along the river Nene in the heart of Northampton and past a skate park has been heavily tagged and updated over the summer and there also appears to be a general acceptance from the townspeople of the artwork created. I’ve previously done stencil work like the piece above (found in Glasgow, UK. Uncredited work) so I want to take this lockdown as an opportunity to try something a bit different.

As a birthday treat to myself I’ve put in a fairly large order to Molotow- an art brand specialising in street art styles and I will try my hand at bringing these to paper and hopefully, eventually some canvas.
